Cecilia's Profile
My name is Cecilia Koh. I am a U.K. trained nurse and midwife with special interest in baby care. I currently operate a childcare centre for children from 1 month to 2 years of age.
I was co-founder of a company that conducts antenatal classes and postnatal home visits for mothers in 1993. Seven years ago I gave up that practice so that I could give more time to my daughter Marie who was 3 years old at that time. Although I was out of active service I often received calls for advice from ex-clients and referred mothers who somehow managed to track me down. Most of them just needed reassurance that what they were doing was right or what alternative choices there were as having a baby in Malaysia seems to be full of conflicting advice. I do not profess to know everything but I hope that by sharing my knowledge and experience from over 30 years of working with mothers and babies in England and Malaysia I may be able to help you make the best choices for yourself and your baby.
During my stint at post-natal home visiting I was exposed to a lot of traditional practices which I used to poo-poo at because of lack of knowledge about them. Over the years I learnt that not all traditional practices are ridiculous or bad. The most important thing is to look at them from a logical viewpoint and to use what is best for each of us. Remember that we are all individuals, therefore what works for some may not work for others.
Being mothers of small families we want to give our best to our children from the moment they were born therefore I hope to give you information on alternative choices in handling minor problems in conjunction with medical information and western practices.

| Andrew can only drink 5 – 10 mls of milk each feed so we have to use a syringe to feed him | Andrew had respiratory distress syndrome so he needed oxygen all the time which is why you can see the little green funnel near his face |
