Baby-umbilical cord

By Cecilia Koh

The information provided below is a general guide and is not meant to replace your doctor's advice. If you have any problems or questions, please refer to your doctor.

The umbilical cord is the life line between baby and mother whilst the baby is in the womb. As soon as the baby is born the cord will be clamped and cut in order for the baby to establish his own circulation. It is important to keep the base of the stump clean and dry to prevent infection.
